Traditional Poses or Reportage: The Main Decision about
Your Wedding Photographs
The main thing you have to decide for your wedding photography
is whether you would prefer to have a traditional set of photographs
where the wedding party and guests are predominantly 'posed'
for the photos, or whether you would prefer to have a set of
'reportage' photos where the photos tell the story of the day
without necessarily 'posing' anyone and where the subjects are
very often not looking at the camera. Of course these two main
options can be mixed to whatever extent you decide: We find
that although the bride and groom may opt for 'reportage' photography,
parents and grandparents will expect to see themselves in traditional
'posed' photographs, and even where couples opt for traditional
'posed' photgraphs, we inevitably take a great many spontaneous
photographs in between the posed photographs. It really is just
a case of getting the balance that you want within the time
available.
Photo
Album or Printed Photo Book
A 'Photo Book' is simply a large bound book (approximately 12"
x 12") containing machine printed pages. Although there
is nothing to prevent a set of traditional photographs being
printed in a Photo Book, traditional 'posed' photographs are
most often set in photo albums and 'reportage' photos are most
often set in photo books. However there is absolutely nothing
to prevent you from having traditional posed photos in a photo
book, or reportage photos in a photo album. Photo books allow
us to design collage pages containing more than one photo (and
if required, at different sizes), which is ideal for 'reportage'
photography or a mix of reportage and traditional photography.
